Nintendo has never been a major player in the competitive online multiplayer space. Their games have usually been charming and well-crafted, but focussed primairly around local games like Mario Kart and Mario Party. The original Splatoon and its recently released sequel changed all that though. The game maintains the unique feel and style of a Nintendo game, but offers a really challenging online environment for players to tackle and with the growing popularity of the Switch this could definitely be an area to watch.
It makes sense then, that this is an IP Nintendo wants to support and develop, and this morning at Gamescom, amidst a flurry of Nintendo related news, we got confirmation of the first significant expansion pack. There’s two new maps due in the release, with Manta Maria coming to Turf War and Ranked Battle Modes, and Lost Outpost available on the co-op Salmon Run mode. We can also look forward to Bubble Blower, a new special out September 2nd, ahead another Splatfest due to take part that weekend.
