Pokemon Go may have slumped somewhat from the public consciousness compared to its launch a year ago, but the game is still going strong with a large and dedicated following. The summer events have been known about for a while, and the central Chicago Pokemon Go Fest sold out in record time and is currently subjected to scalper abuse. There are also events in a number of major cities including Barcelona, Paris, and Yokohama, but what to do for the Pokemon Go fan who doesn’t have access to one of these events? Well thankfully Niantic has you covered!
Alongside the Chicago event, there will be a number of Challenge Windows where players both and outside the event work together to get everyone catching them. Those at Chicago who catch certain types of Pokemon will be able to unlock perks for the global players, whilst those outside can extend the duration of these windows by catching Pokemon themselves, making this a win/win for everyone involved! Additionally if overall volumes are high enough there’ll be a special mystery challenge unlocked but the details of these are being kept carefully under wraps.
There’s also been a report by Sensor Tower into the amounts of money spent by region. It’s not massively surprising, with the United States coming first in terms of overall quantity spending approximately $424 million in-game, but when it comes to spend per user Japan leads the way with the average player spending $26 within the game. This is a considerable way ahead of the closest competitors.
